Martin Wilkins FPC
Martin opened Martins Estates in 1991. Coming from a financial services background, Martin realised that many of the local independent agents were being taken over by the corporate chains, banks and building societies and saw an opening for an independent local agent offering a range of services including sales, lettings, financial services and conveyancing. With over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, Martin also heads up Martins Estates sister companies The Independent Mortgage Centre and Independent Property Lawyers.
Having joined the Financial Services Industry in 1981 with Imperial Life of Canada I have remained in that industry ever since. I found I had a great interest in property and the acquisition of it. I majored in the Mortgage market obtaining a wealth of experience in the underwriting of various lenders and their schemes. Whilst remaining in the industry I soon set up my own Estate Agency adding a Lettings department soon after.
Eventually I formed our own Mortgage Brokerage and have since added a conveyancing Company. I have an holistic approach to home ownership and we can now sell a house, arrange the finance on it, do the legal work to acquire it, protect it through mortgage protection insurance, let it out and manage it. Our clients can take advantage of all of these or just one. I still major in mortgages and really enjoy the contact with clients which keeps me grounded and my knowledge fresh.
Glenn Wright (Associate Partner) Sales and Lettings
With over twenty five years of experience in the sales and lettings business, Glenn launched the lettings department for Martins Estates in 1992. Since then he and his team have established themselves as Ashford’s premier letting agent managing a sizeable portfolio for landlords based in many countries across the globe. He now has overall responsibility for the Sales and Lettings departments.
As an experienced Landlord of over twenty years, Glenn fully understands the economics of property ownership and his wealth of experience in this field has enabled Martins to develop a growing portfolio in Folkestone and Maidstone as well as Ashford, Canterbury and Faversham, Martins are looking to develop their business interests throughout Kent. In recent years Glenn has been able to share his time equally between sales and lettings having established a solid team within the letting department and this has further enhanced Martins Estates ability to provide an unrivalled independent approach to property sales, lettings and management.
He has also helped develop the Estates and Block Management side of the business which has seen the addition of a number of highly prestigious blocks throughout the South East as well as a number of commercial and industrial estates.
Laurie Buckham BSc Hons MPhil (Associate Partner) Senior Sales and Lettings Negotiator
Having completed her BSc in Marine Biology, Laurie spent time in Australasia as a dive instructor before returning to the UK where she became a qualified energy assesor. Laurie succesfully started an Inventory service here in Ashford before returning to the family business as a Senior Negotiator. With over 15 years of experience gained primarily in Estate Agency, Laurie’s understanding of the sales process is unrivalled. Her understanding of the local market and wealth of local knowledge coupled with understanding of the sales process come together to make her a wonderful negotiator. The expertise gained in starting and running her own business has served her well with the changing dynamics of the property market. With sales progression increasingly becoming one of the most important aspects of agency work, Laurie’s ability to keep a sale on track and her ability to ensure that a sale progresses to completion are rarely challenged and enable her to offer her clients an end to end service, something that the larger corporate agents are unable to offer.
With over fifteen years of agency experience and as an experienced landlord Laurie has been instrumental in helping Martins build a significant lettings portfolio. On the Sales side of the business her comprehensive knowledge of the conveyance process means that she is able to assist buyers, be it landlords from “idea to income” or first time buyers guiding them through the property maze and helping them secure that important first home.
Antony Wilkins (Lettings Negotiator)
Antony joined the Lettings team in 2005 as a negotiator and has spent the last 13 years developing his knowledge and skill set. As a Landlord himself, he realises the importance of matching quality tenants to quality homes, whilst always looking to achieve premium rents.
Working for the family business was always Antony’s ambition and he now covers an area including Folkestone, Canterbury and Ashford. Antony carries out our MTV’s and keeps a watchful eye over our extensive portfolio.
Jan Holliday (Property Manager)
Jan joined the Lettings team in 2008 in our Folkestone branch and after a number of years helping to build our portfolio along the south coast she moved to our property management centre in the heart of Ashford. Jan is responsible for our extensive portfolio and deals with all property maintenance issues. Liaising with our network of contractors, Jan is the first point of contact for tenants and contractors alike.
Michelle Wood (Accounts Administrator)
Michelle joined the Lettings team in 2004 as an administrator and has spent the last 14 years undertaking a number of roles for us. Michelle is currently in charge of all things financial and looks after rents and landlords payments, block and estate management payments. Outside of work Michelle enjoys walking and going to the Gym and prides herself on paying our landlords promptly.
If all of that isn’t enough to keep her busy she has a young family and actively supports them in their sporting endeavours.
Gill Wilcox (Administrator)
Gill joined the Lettings team in 2008 as an accounts administrator and has spent the last 9 years undertaking a number of roles for us. Gill is currently in charge of Check In’s and Out’s, deposits and Inventories as well as dealing with the utility companies ensuring that meter readings are properly filed with the relevant companies. Gill ensures that the transition between tenancies is a smooth process and that all parties are treated fairly when it comes to dealing with dilapidations and thanks to her expertise and experience the number of cases being referred for arbitration is kept at a bare minimum.
